On 17-20 February 2025, Lviv hosted a large-scale training, "SafeGuarding: Protection in Action," organized by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society. This event was an essential step in raising awareness of the mechanisms of protection against violence among information center staff. The training took place at the Optima Medieval Hotel at 9 Drukarska Street. Two groups of participants learned more about key aspects of combating violence.

The main topics of the training were

Safeguarding is not just a set of rules but a holistic system of measures aimed at protecting people from any form of violence, exploitation, and abuse. The training covered the following key topics:

  • Identifying risks and threats of violence in the work environment and society;
  • Methods of preventing physical, emotional, and sexual violence;
  • Legal aspects of human rights protection and response mechanisms;
  • Practical tools for prompt assistance;
  • Implementation of effective safeguarding strategies in the work processes of information centers.

The event speaker, Pauline Wambui, British Red Cross SafeGuarding Delegate, shared international experience in this area, discussed best practices for protecting people, and helped participants develop new algorithms for acting in critical situations.

The importance of simultaneous interpretation

As the training involved active interaction between Ukrainian specialists and an international expert, ensuring high-quality simultaneous interpretation was critical to the event's success. Thanks to the coordinated work of interpreters Myroslava Berezovska and Solomiya Rozhko, the participants received accurate and emotionally rich interpretations, allowing them to immerse themselves in the learning process fully.

Our specialists worked with two groups for four days, providing simultaneous interpretation between Ukrainian and English. The work was carried out using professional equipment, which allowed the 30 participants to perceive the information comfortably.

Challenges and peculiarities of interpreters' work

Simultaneous interpretation of human rights-related topics requires an exceptional level of training. In addition to mastery of professional vocabulary, interpreters must convey the emotional component of speeches and adapt them to the audience. This is especially true for topics related to violence, discrimination, and psychological trauma.

One main challenge was quickly addressing the complex cases and legal aspects discussed during the training. Thanks to the interpreters' experience and training, it was possible to maintain the accuracy of the presentation and ensure that each participant understood the material.

Results of the event

The "Safeguarding: Protection in Action" training was another step in forming an effective system for preventing violence in information centers in Ukraine. Status Ko Translation Centre was proud to provide high-quality simultaneous interpretation, which allowed participants and international experts to communicate without language barriers.
