On 23-24 January 2025, Lviv hosted a large-scale training for HR professionals, "Safeguarding in Action: HR Professionals Training. The event was held in the Taurus Hotel & SPA conference halls. It became an essential milestone in the implementation of international standards of protection against violence and discrimination. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), and the keynote speaker was Pauline Wambui, British Red Cross Safeguarding Delegate.
Topics of the event and key aspects of the training
Safeguarding is a set of measures aimed at preventing physical, emotional, and sexual violence, as well as exploitation in the workplace, educational institutions, and society in general. This topic is crucial for HR professionals responsible for the safety policy and support of employees in their organizations.
During two days of intensive work, the participants discussed the following issues:
- How to recognize and prevent workplace violence;
- What legal aspects and international norms regulate the issue of safeguarding;
- How HR professionals can create a safe working environment;
- Actual cases from the practice of international organizations and methods of problem-solving;
- Tools for developing policies and procedures to combat violence.
The role of simultaneous interpretation and the work of our team
Uninterrupted communication was necessary because the training involved close interaction between Ukrainian HR professionals and an international expert. Simultaneous interpretation played a key role in facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience.
Two professional simultaneous interpreters, Galyna Pekhnyk and Olena Rushchak, worked on the translation. Thanks to their skill, all participants received accurate, high-quality translations without losing the semantic and emotional nuances of the speeches.
The main aspects of our team's work:
- Two days of intensive translation from Ukrainian into English and vice versa;
- Modern equipment for simultaneous interpretation for 60 people;
- Real-time interpretation during speeches, discussions, and practical tasks;
- Deep immersion in specialized vocabulary and terminology adaptation to the context of the event.
Challenges and peculiarities of simultaneous interpretation at such an event
The topic of safeguarding is quite emotionally charged, as it includes an analysis of confirmed cases of violence, exploitation, and discrimination. Some materials could seem shocking and challenging for the participants to understand. That is why our interpreters had to not only accurately convey the meaning of what was said but also maintain the appropriate tone and emotional coloring.
Thanks to the experience and professionalism of our team, we achieved maximum comprehensibility of the material. We created a comfortable environment for the participants, who could freely express their opinions, ask questions, and actively participate in the discussions.
Conclusions and significance of the event
Status Ko Translation Centre has once again proven its expertise in simultaneous interpretation. Our team did everything possible to ensure the training participants had full access to information regardless of the language barrier.
Thanks to high-quality interpretation, this event became an effective educational tool and a platform for international dialogue, where Ukrainian HR professionals could adopt best practices from international organizations.
