On January 16-17, 2025, a large-scale training event for HR professionals was dedicated to the topic 'Safeguarding in Action: HR Professionals Training. The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) organized the event featuring Pauline Wambui, British Red Cross Safeguarding Delegate. The training occurred at the Hotel IQ in Kyiv and became an essential event for HR professionals in social protection and human rights.
What was the training about?
Safeguarding is a set of measures aimed at protecting people from any form of violence and exploitation. The training covered the issues of preventing physical, sexual, and emotional violence both in the professional environment and in society at large. The event focused on practical methods of identifying threats, response mechanisms, and implementing relevant HR policies.
The training materials were sometimes not easy to understand, as they contained real-life cases and analyses of actual human rights violations. However, this approach allowed the participants to understand the problem as deeply as possible and develop effective strategies to address it.
The importance of simultaneous interpretation
Since the training brought together Ukrainian HR professionals and an international expert, ensuring high-quality simultaneous interpretation was key to the event's success. The Status Ko Translation Centre team was proud to take on this responsible mission.
Two professional simultaneous interpreters - Valerii Rezik and Olena Shapovalenko - provided continuous interpretation into Ukrainian and English for two days. The work was carried out in a specially equipped area with professional simultaneous interpretation equipment, allowing the 30 participants to access information without language barriers.
Challenges and achievements
The simultaneous interpretation of training at this level is always a challenge, especially when it comes to specialized terminology, emotionally charged topics, and a high pace of presentation. However, thanks to our interpreters' experience, the participants could interact with the speaker without obstacles and participate actively in discussions and practical exercises.
One of the key points was the accurate conveyance of the meaning of the words and the preservation of the emotional component of the speeches, which is extremely important for the adequate perception of the topic of safeguarding.
Conclusions
Status Ko Translation Centre has once again proven its expertise in simultaneous interpretation. Our team is proud to be a part of such an important event and to contribute to the development of the HR community in Ukraine. We are always ready to support international initiatives, promote the professional development of specialists, and help overcome language barriers on the way to positive societal changes.
